The team of two in 1996 has now grown to be 9 full time staff and 7 project staff. Besides sakhi has a number of volunteers, supporters and friends who regularly interact and support us in the work.

Our journey of last 10 years has been one of joy, pride, anxieties and sometimes even hopelessness. But we have survived because of all the support and also more so, because of the faith reposed in us by the many women, youth and pro-feminist men whom we have encountered during this journey.

The Beginnings

Aleyamma Vijayan who initiated Sakhi, did so with the help of a fellowship she received, after working 16 years with the marginalized communities. After three years of the fellowship, sakhi was registered as a charitable trust. The trustees are Dr.Sundari Ravindran, Mercy Alexander and Aleyamma Vijayan.

The Sakhi team presently consists of Dr Seema Bhaskaran, Jayasree.S, Mini Rajkumar, Rejitha G, Remadevi.L and Saraswati besides Mercy and Aleyamma.
